The Smart Future brand was established in 2007 with the belief that a ‘smart future’ was one in which we could do more with less. A young woman passionate about the environment and filled with hope that we could turn things around and create a more sustainable future. The past decade has been a journey of professional and personal challenge, attempting to find ways to achieve change to the system within which we are all a part. In the meantime humanity continues to march towards its demise, destroying the very life support systems on which we are dependent, and all the diversity that makes our planet glorious, in pursuit of a plasticised and divided society. It is easy to lose hope.
But then what?
The success of our consumption driven, capitalist society is based on us as individuals feeling disempowered, disenfranchised... disconnected. We are however, at our heart, all creative beings. Perhaps if we could embrace this aspect of ourselves we can find the hope and connection that we all need.
Today our brand has evolved into three individual areas of focus, each representing the passions and interests of the owners Sarah and Simon Kemp. The irony of our business name is that in the full circle of my journey I have discovered that is not about the future, or about being smart at all. It’s about being present in the now, about the heart and not the head. And love, because at the end of the day that is all we ever really have.
